This is my newest screenprint. (4/25)
Im getting really sick of cutting out the stencils now, but i’ve still got a long way to go!
This is the print studio where i do all my work :)
And the last layer of my screenprint
This is some photography work ive been working on for my project that im working on at the moment called “Forgotten world”. I have been exploring abandoned buildings, in particular this warehouse in Newport and several Mental institutions.
These photographs were taken with a Holga 120 with a supergrain black and white film. I am pleased with the way that they have turned out. I can only only hope that i get an oppertunity to take some more.
Today has been busy busy busy!
Not only have i been retracing my woodblocky roots. I have also somehow found time in my busy schedule of presentations and slideshow making to do a few screenprints. Im getting abit bored of this whole photograph>stencil>screenprint thing now, so i dont know how many more i’ll be able to force myself through before i give up on the idea.
So here is the collaged version, which is just about as exciting as it can get :)
Today i did some wood block printing. They didnt come out perfectly like i expected, but to be honest it was worth it just for the wooden plates. They are beautiful as they are
I don’t know how i could have forgotten about this artist. But i found a book on my shelf today called “Spilling Open” by Sabrina Ward Harrison.
Over the past 6 years she has been sharing her life experience and adventures through a vivid interplay of artwork, photography, writing and video. Sabrina’s authentic approach to life & art has encouraged people all over the world to come from a place of honest expression. Looking at her work just makes me want to be more spontaneous and free with my work, it makes me want to break away from the rigidness of screenprinting, and printmaking altogether really.
3/4 layers.
Many artists worry that the digitization of our daily lives will turn us disembodied ghosts. They fear that we will become just mechanical limbs plugged into some giant machine, that is simultaniously controlling and being controlled by our minds without the need for movement or creativity.
Im my work i try to steer my methods against this relentless dependance on computers and mechanical means. Although i am a screen printer by trade, i believe in hand cutting my stencils. I believe in manual cameras, manual drawing, manual editing and most importantly; manual artwork.
As humanity has driven deeper and deeper into a technologically driven 21st century, now more than ever I do believe we need to be brought home to the presence of our living. To allow the restful validation of your own tender true humanity, may this work be a living ode to our living.
I am striving to create both a visual and emotional unfolding through the textural interchange of photography, screenprinting, collage, painting and found objects.
This is my first screen print.
I’d like to think i’ve come a long way since 2008.
